Ingredients
Scale
- 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 packet active dry yeast
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- 1/2 cup warm milk
- 1 large egg
- 1 cup chopped pecans
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine warm milk, yeast, and a teaspoon of sugar. Let sit until frothy, about 5 minutes.
- Add remaining sugar, salt, egg, and melted butter to the yeast mixture. Mix well.
- Gradually add flour, kneading until a smooth dough forms. Cover and let rise for 1 hour.
- Meanwhile, prepare the pecan filling by mixing chopped pecans, brown sugar, melted butter, and vanilla.
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Punch down the dough and roll it into a large circle about 1/4 inch thick.
- Spread pecan filling evenly over the dough, then cut into wedges (like a pizza).
- Roll each wedge from the wide end to the tip to form crescent shapes. Place on a lined baking sheet.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown. Let cool slightly before serving.
Notes
- Ensure butter is cold for flaky layers.
- You can substitute walnuts or almonds for pecans.
- Serve with a drizzle of honey or a dusting of powdered sugar for extra sweetness.
