Ingredients
Scale
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- 4-5 tablespoons ice water
- 5 large tart apples, sliced
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine flour, salt, and sugar. Add cold butter and cut in with a pastry blender until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Add ice water one tablespoon at a time until dough comes together. Divide into two discs, wrap, and chill for 30 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C). Roll out one disc on a floured surface and fit into a pie plate.
- In a bowl, toss sliced apples with sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice. Pour into the crust.
- Roll out the second disc and place over filling. Trim edges and crimp. Cut small slits on top to vent.
- Bake for 45-50 minutes or until golden brown. Cool before serving.
Notes
- Use firm, tart apples like Granny Smith or Honeycrisp for the best flavor.
- Chill the pie dough thoroughly to prevent shrinkage during baking.
- Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for extra indulgence.
